Farm hand
2025

Job Title: Farm Hand – Summer 2025
Location: Pt. Mackenzie
Compensation: DOE
Term: Summer 2025 – with potential to roll into full-time

About the Job:
Blankenship Farms is looking for an ambitious, hard-working individual to join us for the 2025 summer season. This is not an office job – it's long days, tough conditions, and real work that keeps a farm running. You’ll be part of a small team responsible for feeding a huge part of Alaska's livestock.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain heavy machinery (tractors, skid steers, balers, etc.)

  • Perform mechanical maintenance and minor repairs on equipment in the field and shop

  • Feed and handle livestock

  • Deliver and stack hay (bale hauling, loading/unloading trucks)

Qualifications:

  • Must be physically fit (able to lift 75+ lbs repeatedly, crawl under equipment, and work long hours)

  • Comfortable with long days in hot, dusty, wet, or cold environments

  • Prior farm or ranch experience is strongly preferred

  • Basic mechanical aptitude (grease, oil, change filters, fix flats)

  • Clean driving record preferred

What We Offer:

  • DOE pay with room for performance-based raises

  • Potential to transition to full-time, year-round work, Flexible Winter hours (if selected)

  • Possibility to join our family long term, with truck and housing provided

  • Opportunity to learn real-world farming skills in hay, livestock, and equipment

  • Honest work with honest folks – no fluff, no corporate, no HR

  • Access to automotive and welding shop

  • Farm fresh products (meat/eggs)

What you should know:

  • This is a farm, must be comfortable with death. Livestock are slaughtered, or die of natural causes and in some situations must be put down.

  • We are at the mercy of the weather. This can mean working weekends, working long stretches or non-standard hours.

  • It can be uncomfortable, we try to keep everything as comfortable as possible, but things break and the weather waits for no one. Sometimes this means operating without air conditioning

  • The commute is long. Gas subsidy may be available. Prefer those close to Pt. Mackenzie

  • Anything can be taught, anything can be learned. If you have the right attitude but not the resume apply anyway.

  • The summers are intense, the winters not so much.

  • If you made it this far you passed the first test! We are small but growing fast and ideally want an ambitious self-starter with vision who wants to share in the rewards of the team rather than just be an employee.
